Community Based Psychosocial Support/Mental Health Mainstreaming
Permaculture is an opportunity helping us in restore lost social, environment and economic hopes at community level. At household level, this comes with strengthened household capacities as part of the broader ecosystem. Despite being a neglected aspect of life, mental health and psychosocial support is fundamentally a central notion in our design work. Linking the mind with nature is more handy and urgent today than ever. As such PEACE Foundation uses the CBPS approach and self-help plus model in mainstreaming mental health into its work and in facilitating restoration, adaption and graduation to resilience. Community members identified with mental health challenges are helped, counselled and engaged in permaculture training sessions. After building their resilience and they are enabled to connect back to nature through permaculture, designing for sustainability and undertaking small permaculture enterprises on small spaces possible.
